In accordance with regulation 8 of the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, all public sector websites must provide an accessibility statement.
This accessibility statement applies to the website found at https://coastalwildbelt.org.uk
This website is run by National Trails UK. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is
This website has been evaluated by WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools and an accompanying manual audit, passing WGAC 2.1.
False Positives
We are aware of several “false positive” warnings generated by the testing software:
Statistics blocks flagged as possible headings
Automated testing tools, including WAVE, flag the large numbers in our statistics blocks as possible headings. This is a heuristic based on text size and length rather than an error in the markup. We have chosen not to mark these figures up as headings, as doing so would place four bare numbers into the document outline and into the heading list used by screen reader users, which would make the page harder to navigate rather than easier. Each statistics block is instead exposed as a labelled list, with the figure and its description announced together as a single item. We consider this the more accessible treatment and have retained it deliberately.
Background video flagged for review
The video used as a background on some page headers is flagged by automated testing tools as HTML5 video requiring manual review. The video is silent and decorative, carries no information not otherwise available on the page, and has no audio track, so captions and audio description do not apply. It is hidden from assistive technologies and cannot be reached by keyboard. A visible pause and play control is provided, and the video is replaced by a static image for visitors who have indicated a preference for reduced motion in their device or browser settings. This flag reflects the tool prompting for a human check rather than a fault we have found.
